Today shooting a 2 card mini-match I was using an open brick of Midas+ and ran into something that’s never happened to me. I started with an open box that was in the brick and it shot good, then I opened a new box and it was what I’d call erratic. Some shots high, some low, some left and some right with no rhyme or reason. I double checked and it was all the same lot number. Has anyone else seen this?

Charlie, did it happen on your second card, and if so did you clean between cards? Was the wind condition the same?

I did clean the barrel and the tuner/crown. The wind was about the same, when I went to the sighters keeping the same POA, the POI was all over the place.

I have never seen that.
I would ask, if you switched to another box in that brick does it do the same? If not does that box that was off, if you have any left, do they do the same. Try different ammo. It actually sounds like a possible scope issue. The way you describe it.

Scopes and loose action screws. Wind conditions would be on my mind. I have never seen ammo that shot good go shotgun. But I guess anything is possible.

I experienced that testing ammo at the Chickenfoot indoor range with Eley. Shooting a row from one box (5 100's in a row), then the other box (2 100's & 3 50's). I then repeated for 2 more rows with the same results. Both boxes were same lot# from the same brick. Definitely laid off buying any of that lot.

Are you sure that you ran some dry patches, and the bore was dry? no solvent on the loading tray?

Is it possible you turned your tuner while cleaning and didn't return it to the proper setting?

Sounds similar to what happened to me during the PSL at Chickenfoot. First 3 cards went well. I moved to another brick of the same lot of Midas+ and things went south for the 4th and 5th cards. Not sure the ammo was the issue but something sure changed

There's no guarantee that every brick of .22LR match ammo -- even if it's a grade that ought to be good, like Midas + -- will be consistent from box-to-box, round-to-round. Given the cost of top tier grades, shooters may expect it to be uniform in performance, but not all lots of match ammo will have that desirable characteristic. Lots with a high rate of box-to-box, round-to-round consistency are less easy to find than those that aren't.

Perhaps this unfortunate situation may help explain why shooters can be frustrated by results when some results are quite good or when wind is supposed to be a non-issue.

This happens with all brands and all types of top brands.
Sure, some lots are more consistent than others, but there's never a guarantee. BR shooters are more prone to notice due to its discipline characteristics.

This "issue" is related to how a lot is chosen. To differentiate from lot to lot any brand shoot a certain amount of ammo on different barrels and take the decision. As you can't shoot all ammo lot, some times the chosen shot rounds are more or less consistent than the rest.
There's no solution to it.

But in last time this phenomenon happened often…..

I can tell you that has indeed happened before.................
I’m not the kind of guy that would do anything like that to anyone and I’m quite sure most of the guys I have met at matches are not also. But it’s fun to joke around about it. Now I knew a few boys from my younger days and you couldn’t put anything past these guys. They were pretending to eat dog jerky strips. They said all man these are so good ect ect and their dad said what do you guys got. They said beef jerky. So their dad said let me try some. So yea they had their dad eating dog treats. O the shenanigans I’ve seen.

Not sure what was going on yesterday, so I went back to the range today. I made sure the tuner was set correctly and was clean, double checked that the barrel was clean and the scope was sighted in. Today was better after a bunch of practice and cleaning this was my final target, I’ll take it.

I gotta admit....I was trying to figure out how you had a -1, -1 and -3 on the bottom row with the center of the bulls shot out!! LOL!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Looks good to me Sir........guess those wind conditions are a pain in the arse when you miss them. ;):p:D

Reading the wind is definitely an art, and my artistic skills are limited to stick figures. I’m learning but it’s a slow process.

Those are total misses for that vertical column.

I have shot targets just like that and was sure the wind condition was the same. Like your target all my dropped rounds where high - high left (Always) The conclusion I came to was ME doing something different when moving from target. PS same lot same box.
